About Us

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the major departments established right from the inception of the college in 2003 with an intake capacity of 60 which rather increased to 120 in the year 2007 & from the year 2013 to till date the department is continuing with an intake capacity of 210. The department has well experienced faculty and supporting staff members of proven ability and administrative skills. It has well equipped state-of-the-art laboratories that cater to the needs of the faculty and students. The placement record and the academic progress of the students of the department are highly impressive. The faculty pays personal and individual attention in motivating and moulding young students into qualified professionals and responsible engineers through its well established mentoring system.

To cultivate knowledge and foster problem-solving abilities of the students in the field of Mechanical Engineering by inculcating advanced skills and igniting their minds with a notion towards technical advancement and building entrepreneurs.

Programme Educational Objectives:

  • PEO 1: To provide strong fundamental based knowledge with technical competence in the field of Thermal science, design engineering, manufacturing science and multi-disciplinary approach to pursue higher education.
  • PEO 2: To adhere professional ethics, develop team spirit and effective communication skills to be successful leaders with holistic approaches.
  • PEO 3: To provide advanced technical skill through experts from industries and to accomodate with the need of the industry.

Every year 15th September is celebrated as the Engineer’s day in India to give a tribute to the greatest Indian Engineer, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarya who also received India’s highest honour, the Bharat Ratna in 1955. In his honour, the Engineer’s day was celebrated in DRIEMS Polytechnic this year with a great enthusiasm. On the inauguration of the program, lamp lighting ceremony was done by the honourable dignitaries of DRIEMS, Shri Pramod Chandra Rath (Founder Chairman), Shri Balaram kar (Director-Admin), Prof. Lokanath Behera (Director- A & C), Prof. Tapaswini Sahu (Principal) and other faculty members followed by cake cutting ceremony.

In the memory of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan National Librarians Day is celebrated every year on 12 Aug . The Government of India awarded Padmashri to Dr. S.R. Ranganathan for valuable contributions to Library Science. National Librarians Day celebrated on 12/08/2019 in the Seminar Hall of DRIEMS Polytechnic. Some students were also awarded in that occasion for using the library regularly.

A blood donation camp was organized by DRIEMS POLYTECHNIC on, A team of 12 doctors and nurses of AIIMS came for collection of blood . The activity of blood donation was started by Students of DRIEMS Polytechnic. There was an overwhelming response from students and other donors a total of 170 units were collected in the camp. Some of the donors who could not donate this time were assured for donation in the next camp. A Certificate of appreciation, donation card, refreshment was given to each donor as a token of gratitude.

One Student One Tree is DRIEMS Polytechnic's special plantation drive program which was initiated by AICTE with the slogan one student one tree. Our institute also planted no. of trees to fulfil not only the slogan of AICTE but also considering the sustainable environment development. This activity was conducted in our institute premises on 14/08/2019.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was a country-wide campaign by Govt. of India, to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management in urban and rural areas in India. The objectives of the mission also included eradication of manual scavenging, generating awareness and bringing about a behavioural change regarding sanitation practices, and augmentation of capacity at the local level. Our Institute also organised Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on 21/01/2019 in our college premises and nearby village areas. This activity had a great impact on the students and the villagers of that area.

Yoga Camp was organised in the auditorium on 08/02/2019 on the eve of International Yoga Day. This event was fruitful for both the students as well as faculties as yoga provides peace up mind and cures several physical diseases. Most of the students and staffs participated in that event.

One day workshop on “Recent trends in Industrial design & Management system” delivered by Prof.(Dr.) Sudhir kumar Kashyap, Sr. principal scientist, CSIR-CIMFR, Dhanbad organized by Dept. of Mechanical engineering on 22-02-2020

One day workshop on "Self Driving Car (Driverless Technology)" delivered by Prof(Dr) Pranit Kumar Senapati ,CEO CAD DIGEST,Bhubaneswar Organized by Department of Mechanical Engg. On 4/03/2020.

An industrial visit to Central Tool Room & Training centre-CTTC, Bhubaneswar by final year Electrical Student of 2016-19 batch on 28/01/2020.

2020 Passing out student named Basant Biswal got placement in Thermax India Pvt. Limited in the recruitment drive conducted at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar.

Tamasa Tatini Sutar, Asst. Prof., Dept. of Mechanical Engg. Participated a 3 days Faculty Development Programme for “Student Indication “at ITER, SOA university from 06-08 July 2019.

A seminar on “Industrial Automation and Robotics”, delivered by Janmejay Mohanta, HoD, Industry Automation, CTTC, Bhubaneswar & Archana Pani, In-Charge, Robotics, CTTC, Bhubaneswar organized by Department of Mechanical Engg. on 09/04/2019.

Six students of Mechanical Engg. (2016-19 batch) branch participated National Innovative Project Fair- 2019 organised by Industrial Scheele Development Centre GITA, Bhubaneswar, Odisha and awarded special prize for their performance.

On behalf of Skill India, six students of Mechanical Engg, branch have applied through “smart India Hackathon 2019” for project fair.
